We can all look back and remember that one teacher who made a profound difference—a mentor who believed in us, challenged us, and inspired us to reach new heights. Whether it was a kind word of encouragement, a lesson that sparked our curiosity, or a moment of guidance during a challenging time, their influence continues to resonate with us long after we've left their classroom.
Teachers have a unique ability to ignite a passion for learning, instill confidence, and nurture the potential within each student. They not only impart knowledge but also cultivate critical thinking skills, empathy, and resilience—qualities that shape us into the individuals we are today.
They are the unsung heroes who shape the future, one lesson, one interaction, and one student at a time. For me, personally, it was Cynthia Birk, my accounting 201 & 202 professor at the University of Nevada Reno. Her inspiration and love of accounting changed my career trajectory and helped shape me into the person I am today. Thank you, Ms. Birk!
As a member of the school board, I recognize our most important duty is to ensure every student has the support and resources they need to thrive. My commitment to providing a high-quality education extends beyond the classroom walls-it encompasses the well-being and success of every child in our district.
I believe that by investing in our students, we are investing in the future of our community. This means not only allocating resources efficiently but also advocating for policies and initiatives that prioritize student success.
I believe in the power of career and technical education (CTE) to transform lives. CTE opens doors to a world of opportunities, equipping students with the practical skills, knowledge, and experiences they need to succeed in today's dynamic workforce. Whether it's mastering cutting-edge technologies, honing trade skills, or exploring innovative career pathways, CTE empowers students to pursue their passions and build fulfilling careers.
Lyon County School District is committed to providing exceptional CTE programs that prepare students for success in the real world. Through hands-on learning, industry partnerships, and personalized support, we help students unlock their potential and thrive in diverse fields—from healthcare and accounting to hospitality and beyond.
Together, let's build a world where every student has the opportunity to excel and make a meaningful impact.
As a steward of public education, I understand the profound impact that my decisions can have on the lives of students and families. That's why I am committed to listening to the needs of our community, collaborating with stakeholders, and making informed choices that prioritize students above all else.
As your representative I will continue to work tirelessly to provide the students of Lyon County with the support, resources, and opportunities they deserve. By doing so I will uphold my commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers.
Lyon County School District has adopted the Portrait of a Learner. The question was asked, “What does our community value and envision as the Lyon County Educational Experience?”. This process started in 2021 with broad stakeholder input from each of our communities. Currently, the Lyon County School District is in the application phase of the portrait and implementing the four domains of Learning for Life, Connected Learners, Student Ownership, and Discovery Learning.
