Re-Elect Phil Cowee
About Phil Cowee
Lyon County School Board President Phil Cowee was elected in 2020 and sworn into office in 2021.
Phil is a sixth-generation Nevadan and resident of Dayton. He and his wife, Casandra, met at the University of Nevada Reno, and they are the proud parents of five children. Each of those children are attending or have graduated from the Lyon County School District. Phil and Casandra are active inside the classroom and support various extracurricular activities within the district. Casandra serves as a substitute teacher and they both have dedicated their free time to volunteer with the local and state Little League organization. Their children – and the children of their community – are their greatest priority.
Their children all have a different learning style, and they have worked with their teachers to determine the best way to help them learn. They also try to give them robust experiences outside the classroom and nurture their interests so they can make the best choice for their own future career paths. Strong communities are built in our homes and schools.
Phil graduated from the University of Nevada Reno with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting. He’s a Certified Public Accountant with a background in finance and business management.
Phil is proud to have served as a Presidential appointee in the Donald J. Trump administration as State Director for USDA Rural Development in Nevada. While in that role, Phil worked to support infrastructure improvements, business development and homeownership in rural areas. He also strengthened community services such as schools, public safety, health care, and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
Phil currently serves on the executive board of the Northern Nevada Development Authority (NNDA). NNDA serves as the economic development agency for Lyon County.
